Etihad Airways has resumed direct flights from Nairobi to Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The airline terminated its Nairobi flights in March 2020 due to the then COVID-19 pandemic.

To mark the resumption, the airline launched its inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi on Sunday, December 15.

"Habari Kenya! Today marks the arrival of our inaugural flight to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, opening a new direct route from Abu Dhabi to Nairobi," the airline stated.

Speaking while announcing the presumption, Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua said the airline will employ several Kenyans, including pilots, engineers, cabin crew and ground handling personnel, beginning January 2025.

"I am thrilled that these airlines bring numerous job opportunities for Kenyans, particularly in Nairobi. Moreover, we have agreed with Etihad Airlines to hold a recruitment roadshow in Kenya this coming January. The initiative will focus on hiring Kenyan pilots, engineers, cabin crew, and ground handling personnel," said Mutua.
