Comedian and activist Eric Omondi has captured the public attention, this time staging a dramatic roadside protest over Kenya’s rising fuel prices.

Omondi, walking by the roadside with empty jerrycans, he has shown the frustration of millions of Kenyans struggling to cope with the increasing cost of living.

Known for his bold and unconventional activism, he pulled the jerrycans to highlight the emptiness felt by ordinary citizens at petrol stations.

“We are tired of promises. Kenyans cannot afford fuel anymore; this is crippling everything: transport, food and business,” he said during the protest.

The stunt has drawn attention, many expressing solidarity, some joining him in carrying jerrycans, while others cheered by the roadside, turning the protest into a spectacle that has gone viral on social media.

His protest has come after EPRA hiked historic fuel prices, with diesel price hitting Ksh 242 per litre, leading matatus operators to increase prices and everyone feeling the pinch of inflation. The government has defended the price increases, citing global oil market have risen too high.

Eric Omondi’s protest has sparked debate online, with many praising his creativity and bold approach. As the cost of living continues to rise, Kenyanshave expressed frustration over the economic situation. Supporters praised Omondi for using his platform to speak out on issues affecting the ordinary citizen. This is not the first time for he has staged a protest, as he has previously protested against unemployment, taxation and governance.

As the fuel crisis keeps deepening, all eyes are on the policymakers to act and provide subsidies, tax relief or alternative solutions, urging for urgent intervention.

Eric has requested Kenyan on Monday to avail themselves for nationwide protest for Kibuyu day due to the cost of high fuel prices.
