Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna now claims Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei’s supposed blunders contributed to Raila Odinga’s loss in the African Union Commission’s (AUC) chairmanship race.

In the elections held on Saturday, February 15, Raila lost to Djibouti’s Mahmoud Youssouf after seven rounds of secret voting by African heads of state in Ethiopia.

Speaking on Thursday, Sifuna argued that Sing’oei’s foreign affairs gaffes, while handling sensitive regional matters, cost Raila.

For instance, the senator cited the abduction of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye in Nairobi before his deportation to Uganda.

Sing’oei came out to deny Nairobi’s involvement in Besigye’s deportation, but a Ugandan minister later revealed Kenya’s role in the arrest of the opposition veteran.

Sifuna claimed such errors dented Raila’s chances of clinching the seat.

"There is a very pompous and pretentious gentleman who is a PS for foreign affairs who speaks what we call English of the nose. I don't know where that guy went to school. His goofs have contributed to this particular loss," said Sifuna.
