Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Dr. Deborah M. Barasa, today joined the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Mr. Felix Koskei, in a tree-growing exercise at Kipkabus Forest Station, Tumeiyo Block, in Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The event brought together members of the local host community and key environmental stakeholders as part of ongoing national efforts to promote forest restoration and climate resilience.

Dr. Barasa and Mr. Koskei were accompanied by several high-ranking government officials, including Principal Secretaries Mr. Gitonga Mugambi (Forestry), Dr. Eng. Festus Ng’eno (Environment and Climate Change), and Dr. Chris Kiptoo (National Treasury)—who also serves as the patron of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme.

Speaking during the tree-planting exercise, the leaders emphasized the need for coordinated conservation efforts and community participation in restoring forest ecosystems across the country.

“This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to combat climate change, secure water towers, and enhance carbon sinks,” said Dr. Barasa.

The visit also included inspection of various conservation and environmental sites in preparation for the 9th Edition of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme, scheduled for July 12, 2025.

The event will be officially presided over by His Excellency President Dr. William Samoei Ruto.
