Former Starehe MP Charles Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar, has recounted his encounter with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, which ended in a KSh 10 million cash gift.
Speaking to a local radio station, Jaguar, who is also a celebrated musician, said it all started when Uhuru personally reached out to him in the run-up to the 2017 General Election, seeking his support.
The former president, through Lewis Nguyai, convened a meeting with Jaguar.
"He told me he wanted my help. I joked and asked, ‘You want me to help you or are you the one helping me?’ I mean, he’s the son of Jomo Kenyatta, what help would he need from me?" Jaguar recounted.Despite the request to support his presidential bid, Jaguar said he initially hesitated, as aligning with politicians, especially one as high-profile as Uhuru, came with serious risks, as it would ‘spoil’ his image as an artiste and strain his relationships with corporate sponsors.
Putting that in mind, the singer said Uhuru offered a cash reward for the support, and that is when he offered him KSh 10 million in cash placed in a whiskey box.
"I tried counting it but got tired. I finally finished and realised it was 10 million. I was shocked. I asked what he wanted me to do, and he said, ‘You already said you don’t want to be paid, this is just a gift, now go and help me," added Jaguar.
