The High Court sitting in Kibera has ordered a new mental test for Kennedy Kalombotole, a suspect for the murder of two patients at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
Lady Justice Diana Kavedza, in her Thursday ruling, directed a KNH psychiatrist to be accorded access to the Nairobi Remand Prison to carry out a fresh mental assessment of the suspect.
The report will help determine whether Kalombotole is mentally fit to stand trial.
Kalombotole, who has been receiving treatment at KNH since December 1, 2024, is accused of the murder of fellow patient Edward Maingi Ndegwa on July 11, 2025, in Ward 7B, Group C (Male).
Justice Kavedza also instructed authorities at the prison to provide the accused with appropriate diabetes and other chronic ailment medical attention while they are held in custody.
The second psychiatric examination is also necessary before the state proceeds and charges him formally, as instructed by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Gikui Gichui.
The matter will be mentioned again on November 13, 2025, when the court will decide whether Kalombotole is fit to stand trial for murder.
