The National Assembly’s Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives has directed the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) to fast-track its investigation into allegations that multinational companies are discriminating against local investors in the transport and logistics sector.
Committee Chairperson Hon. Benard Shinali (Ikolomani) issued the directive during a session with CAK Director General David Kemei.
“We want this investigation concluded as soon as possible. This matter has dragged on for too long without a resolution,” said Hon. Shinali.
His remarks followed an update by Kemei, who informed the committee that the Authority intends to complete the probe by October 31, 2025.
The committee began its inquiry last year after officials from the Kenya Transporters Association (KTA) appeared before it, raising concerns over growing tensions in the sector.

During a meeting held on March 6, 2024, KTA Chairperson Newton Wang’oo claimed that multinational companies operating in Kenya tend to favor international logistics partners, sidelining local firms.
He told MPs that this alleged bias had caused significant financial losses for many Kenyan-owned transport and logistics companies.
Following pressure from the legislators, Kemei pledged to accelerate the probe and promised to deliver the final report earlier than initially planned.
“In view of the public interest and the committee’s request, the Authority will endeavor to conclude the investigation by September 30, 2025,” said Kemei.
