Thousands of residents across Kenya’s Coast region are set to benefit from a major land ownership initiative following the launch of the issuance of 33,000 title deeds by President William Ruto at Mama Ngina Waterfront.

The exercise targets land owners in the six Coast counties of Mombasa County, Kwale County, Kilifi County, Tana River County, Taita-Taveta County and Lamu County.

Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho described the exercise as a historic step toward addressing long-standing land ownership challenges in the region.

According to Joho, the programme goes beyond the issuance of legal documents and seeks to secure livelihoods, empower families, unlock economic opportunities and restore dignity to residents who have waited for years to legally own land.

The CS also praised President Ruto for what he termed as deliberate efforts to resolve the sensitive Coast land question and for fostering political unity among leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement and the United Democratic Alliance.

The event brought together several Coast leaders, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports CS Salim Mvurya and governors from the six counties.
