Co-operative Bank of Kenya leads major commercial banks in social media following across five platforms, including Facebook, X, YouTube, TikTok and Threads, according to data compiled as of June 2026.
The figures comparing Co-operative Bank, KCB, Equity Bank, NCBA and Absa Bank show Co-operative Bank maintaining a significant lead on several platforms, while Equity Bank ranks first on Instagram among the five lenders.
On Facebook, Co-operative Bank had 2.2 million followers, ahead of KCB’s 1.5 million and Equity Bank’s 1.3 million. NCBA had 461,500 followers, while Absa Bank recorded 370,700.
The gap was also evident on X, formerly Twitter, where Co-operative Bank had 744,900 followers against KCB’s 633,100 and Equity Bank’s 494,500. Absa had 198,400 followers, while NCBA recorded 117,400.
The figures suggest that Co-operative Bank has built a larger social media audience than its four competitors on the two platforms, which are commonly used by financial institutions to communicate with customers, share updates and promote products.
Equity Bank leads on Instagram
Instagram was the only platform in the comparison where Co-operative Bank did not rank first. Equity Bank led with 94,400 followers, followed by Co-operative Bank at 87,000 and KCB at 73,900.
Absa Bank had 40,000 followers on the platform, while NCBA recorded 31,400.
On YouTube, Co-operative Bank had 88,000 followers, ahead of KCB’s 49,600 and Equity Bank’s 19,600. NCBA recorded 11,100, while Absa had 8,400.
The video-sharing platform offers banks an avenue to publish educational content, product explainers and customer information, although follower numbers alone do not establish how effectively audiences engage with the material.
Co-op records a wide lead on TikTok
Co-operative Bank recorded its strongest lead over the other lenders on TikTok, with 468,000 followers. KCB had 82,800, followed by Equity Bank at 35,700 and Absa at 30,100. NCBA had 2,500 followers.
The difference places Co-operative Bank well ahead of the other four institutions on the platform, which is widely associated with short-form video content.
On Threads, Co-operative Bank also ranked first with 10,400 followers, narrowly ahead of KCB’s 9,800. Absa had 6,400, while NCBA recorded 5,100. Equity Bank had no followers recorded in the comparison.
