The Co-operative Bank of Kenya has completed a KSh102 million project to reconstruct and equip three orthopaedic wards at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), in an initiative aimed at improving patient care and healthcare delivery.

The Bank officially handed over the refurbished facilities to the Ministry of Health and KNH Management Board on Thursday, October 29, 2026, following six months of reconstruction and equipping works funded through the Co-operative Bank Foundation.

The project involved the renovation of three orthopaedic wards and installation of modern medical equipment, including hospital beds, to improve the quality of care provided to patients.

According to the Bank, the upgraded facilities are expected to support better health outcomes while enabling healthcare workers to deliver services more effectively.

“The Co-operative Bank of Kenya today handed over three newly-refurbished wards at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) to the Ministry of Health and KNH Management Board following the completion of reconstruction and equipment funded by the Bank,”Coop bank said in a statement.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale appreciated the private sector partners for supporting improvements in public healthcare infrastructure.

“We sincerely appreciate our private sector partners whose generosity and commitment have transformed our hospital wards into modern, dignified, and patient-centred healing environments,” Duale said.

“Your investment is not merely in infrastructure, but in humanity, hope, and better health outcomes.” he added.

The handover ceremony was attended by KNH Board Chairman Abass Gullet, KNH Chief Executive Officer Dr Richard Lesiyampe and Co-operative Bank Director of Corporate and Institutional Banking Lydia Rono, among other officials.
