Christ Is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) has issued a firm response to social media allegations that its Valley Road assembly turned away peaceful demonstrators who were seeking refuge during Tuesday’s anti-government protests.

In an official statement signed by Deputy Bishop Rev. Justus Mugambi, CITAM reiterated its commitment to justice, human dignity, and the protection of all Kenyans, distancing itself from claims that it denied sanctuary to protesters on June 25, 2025 a day of nationwide demonstrations in memory of the Gen Z protesters who died during last year’s anti-Finance Bill protests.“Based on our security records and a thorough review of CCTV footage, there is no evidence that any person approached the premises seeking refuge on the said date,” the statement reads.

CITAM emphasized that it had received calls from individuals requesting assistance and had directed them to the Valley Road location, where the team remained on standby until 1:30 a.m., but no one showed up.

The church also cited limited accessibility due to barricaded roads around the area during the protests as a likely reason why demonstrators may have been unable to reach the premises.

CITAM further underscored its longstanding commitment to offering support during national emergencies. “Through our Social Action and Advocacy Department, we have responded to crises such as the Embakasi fire tragedy, the Mai Mahiu floods, and the drought in northern Kenya,” noted Rev. Mugambi.

The church reaffirmed its support for peaceful protests and the constitutional right of Kenyans to picket and assemble. On June 18, CITAM’s Presiding Bishop had issued a statement condemning violence and calling for the protection of innocent lives.“We categorically oppose all forms of violence, including extra-judicial killings, rape, corruption, and poor governance. Our mission is grounded in the values of justice, dignity, and compassion,” Rev. Mugambi said.

CITAM is pledging to continue being a voice for truth and peace in the nation, while urging unity among Kenyans as the country grapples with calls for reform and justice.
