Safaricom have been accused of unfair data bundle depletion by Kenyans and Kenyan celebrities, erupting a heated debate online, claiming the data bundles are vanishing faster than expected.
Actress Jackie Matubia, actress Morin and digital creator Lydia Wanjiru are among the celebrities who shared their frustrations, sparking widespread reactions from fans and followers.
In a statement, Matubia said she had purchased a monthly bundle of Ksh 3000, only for it to deplete in less than 24 hours. “I had to buy ya monthly 3k then after less than 24hrs depleted na ni monthly!!”
On the other hand, Wanjiru echoed that she bought a Ksh 5000 bundle of 65GB and within three days, it was all depleted. She commented, “I gave up complaining because they don’t care,” suggesting customer feedback goes unanswered.
Morin highlighted a similar experience, urging Safaricom to address the issue as many users are going similar cases.
Thousands of Kenyans have agreed with them, noticing the unusually fast data depletion despite purchasing bundles. Some argue that streaming services and background apps may contribute to the problem while others insisting the issue lies within Safaricom billing system.
Safaricom, largest telecommunications provider in Kenya, is yet to address the issue, as they previously defended their data policies, citing transparency in bundle usage.
