Kenyan musician Bahati has finally spoken up after his fans forced him and his wife, Diana Marua, to keep their promise to give Harambee Stars Ksh 1 million.

In a social media post, Bahati dismissed the ridicule, explaining that it was not money. He asserted in no uncertain terms that Ksh 3 million is just his “one-week spend,” insisting that even if he hadn’t dropped music for a year, he still has plenty of cash at his disposal.

“Three million si pesa kidogo sana kwa mimi, its my one-week expenditure. Ni one year sijatoa ngoma na bado pesa iko,” Bahati declared.

The Adhiambo artist even joked that he could buy a radio station lock, stock and barrel and make Diana Marua boss if he wanted to. “Naeza pigia mwenye Radio 47 sahi ninunue hiyo station Diana Marua akue Boss wake,” he bragged.

Reacting to the Ksh 1 million Harambee Stars donation, Bahati appeared upset, saying he did not understand why folks were making a fuss instead of telling him where to send the money. “Niwache kusherekea birthday ya mtoto wangu juu nafaa kupea Harambee Stars one million, wako wapi niwapee hio pesa, na Mariga hashiki simu zangu,” he went on.

His comments have sparked new responses on the net, with some supporters labeling his reply arrogant, and others coming to his defense, claiming he is unfairly being attacked.
