Chief Justice Martha Koome on Monday administered the oath of office to Ali Abdullahi Surraw as the new Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
In her address, the Chief Justice urged Surraw to uphold the highest standards of integrity, independence and professionalism as he takes charge of the constitutional commission mandated to set and review the remuneration and benefits of state officers and other public servants.
She emphasized the SRC’s critical role in safeguarding public resources and promoting fairness and transparency in public compensation, noting that the commission’s work has a direct bearing on public confidence in governance.
Justice Koome reminded the new CEO that the Constitution requires fidelity to the law, impartiality and service to the people of Kenya, stressing that leadership at the SRC must remain insulated from political influence and personal interests.
In his remarks, Surraw pledged to discharge his duties with integrity, diligence and professionalism.
He affirmed his commitment to serving the Kenyan people faithfully and ensuring the SRC effectively delivers on its constitutional mandate.
His appointment comes at a time of heightened public debate on salaries, allowances and fiscal sustainability, placing the SRC at the centre of key national discussions on governance and public finance.
