Kenyan entrepreneur and artist Akothee has sparked an internet stir after a heartfelt post to Gen Zs, wondering what their work ethic, discipline, and accountability are like.
In her typical blunt style, Akothee resorted to social media to vent her frustrations and confusion with the attitude of the younger generation, wondering why many are apparently lacking commitment and professionalism in the workplace.
“I would really like to sit down with the Gen Zs and ask them some genuine questions,” she began before listing several issues which have since ignited debate on social media.
Among her questions, Akothee wondered why some Gen Zs think it is normal to avoid responsibility and yet want the employer to smile when they are finally present. She also wondered why most individuals have the idea that crying and sobbing proves strength, or that excuses can equal responsibility.
The five-time mom went further to criticize the youth on work ethics and personal hygiene, posting, “Why do you forget you so desperately needed the job before you begin abusing the opportunity? Why is personal hygiene not on your radar anymore? Why can’t you be disciplined enough to get it right even when nobody’s looking?”
She ended the post with an emotional call: “WHY ARE YOU PEOPLE LIKE THIS? Please answer me.”
Her post divided fans and followers. Some defended her, saying the singer had valid concerns about the attitude of the new generation towards responsibility. Others, however, thought Gen Zs are just dealing with an emotionally more sensitive and mentally tougher period.
