Singer-turned-HR Esther Akoth Kokeyo, better known as Akothee, has sparked an online converstion with a bold post on workplace relationships with Human Resource (HR) officers .
In an open confession on her socials, Akothee asked herself the “unspoken hatred” for Human Resource (HR) officers. “There is unspoken hatred towards HRs and no one seems to know or confront this monster,” she wrote, adding that she personally could never work in an office where people secretly turned into enemies.
Akothee went on to explain more about why she often bows out of certain opportunities: “I am at peace cancelling huge contracts the moment I start feeling negative vibes, controls, or power play.” To her, no amount of money or status is worth sticking around in a toxic working relationship.
The post quickly went viral and elicited a divided response. While some fans praised her for speaking out about an office truth, which many do not dare to talk about, others defended HR professionals as misunderstood because of the nature of their work in enforcing company policies.
“Is it you or your workplace?” Akothee asked her followers, and she invited them to reflect on their own experiences with HR departments. The comments were full of stories of awful bosses, unfair terminations, and even cases where HR stepped up to save some employees.
