Kenyan singer and entrepreneur Akothee has penned an emotional letter to Kenyans and her fans generally, expressing deep appreciation after what had appeared to be a social storm on social media between her and Raila Junior regarding her family.
In her emotional message shared from Bondo, Akothee thanked Kenyans who stood and reported stories that belittled her family, explaining their support had reminded her of her strength and spirit.
“From the bottom of my heart, and most importantly my supporters Asanteni sana. You rose up, you voiced out, and you acted. By reporting those tweets making fun of my family and Raila Junior, you showed that unity, respect, and humanity do still exist in this nation,” she wrote.
The singing artist went on to say that justice had finally been served and she could now stand before her family with dignity knowing that she used her voice to do good.
“I did not dare draw near to Mama unless I had fought off those people. What is our relationship if I cannot protect her? Why call her Mama?” she continued, referencing the psychological toll the cyberbullying had taken on her.
Akothee praised her ardent fans for rallying behind her and said their collective effort illustrated the strength of social media for good.
“Alongside, we’ve shown how social media can be employed for protection rather than destruction,” she shared.
In a fervent message aimed at celebrities who stayed mum amid the drama, Akothee took on those who employ others as content sources without having limits.
“Some of you don’t even know what privacy is you take everything for content. Follow your parents with cameras like I do with mine,” she declared.
She concluded her remarks in a lighter tone by making mockery of her attire, informing that she will be dressed this way in public so that she will not offend you again.
“And for what you have done to me, I will dress like this in public not to offend you again. Hii nguo iko sawa kuenda kumuona Mama, ama hamtaki?”
