The African Union (AU) has once again expressed its commitment to supporting the recognition, justice, and development of people of African descent in different parts of the world.
In a statement during the commemoration of the International Day for People of African Descent which occurs on August of every year, African Union Commission Chairperson, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf underlined how this occasion brings the strong historical and cultural bonds between Africa and its diaspora scattered around the Americas, the Caribbean Europe Asia and the Pacific.
Youssouf stated that the African Union will do all possible to fight against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and other forms of hatred as the Second International Decade for People of African Descent (2025, 2034) has still not come to an end.
AU acknowledges the African diaspora as a central member of the African family and an important collaborator in going ahead Agenda 2063.
Youssouf also pointed to the African Union Decade of Justice for Africans and People of African Descent via Reparations, starting this year 2026 and ending 2035, besides continuous work on a United African Position on the issue of reparations.
He also encouraged deeper partnerships with African, Caribbean, and Latin American communities all over the world.
Youssouf praised the significant contributions of people of African descent to global development, culture, and the advancement of the world at large.
Furthermore, he stated the African Union’s resolve to forge a stronger, more united, and solid world African community that will be based on peace respect justice and well-being.
