As the government widens its skill training programmes and enhances digital infrastructure, at least 300, 000 youth in the country will benefit from the digital jobs created as part of the effort to fight youth unemployment.
According to Principal Secretary for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Stephen Isaboke, who was speaking to the press during the visit to the Jitume Digital Hub at Kisii National Polytechnic, the program is just one of the ways in which the young generation is being prepared with market, ready digital skills.
PS Isaboke said that over 400 young people are being trained in digital skills at the Kisii institution alone, where the main focus is on online jobs, digital entrepreneurship, and the growing ICT sector.
The PS also informed that the government is working on digital infrastructure to make enough support available to young people in not only rural but also in the most deprived places to have access to good internet and digital spaces for work.
PS further reiterated the government’s dedication in solving the youth unemployment problem through such initiatives as the NYOTA project which is a comprehensive approach to skills development, job creation, and linking good trained youth with sustainable income through different streams.
The digital hubs initiative is expected to play a key role in positioning Kenyan youth to tap into the global digital economy while supporting the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.
